Midland Makes Strategic Acquisition

Combined company has about 200 years of history in the scrap industry.

Midland Davis Corp. announced that it acquired the assets of I. Erlichman Co., located in Peoria, Ill. Midland is located in Moline, Ill.

Both companies are long-time scrap recycling operations: Midland Davis is a fourth generation scrap recycler, first begun in 1892; Erlichman, is operating under its third generation.

Midland processes scrap iron, as well as recovered fiber. It covers the Quad City areas of Illinois, as well as regions further away.

Erlichman processes paper, metal, plastic containers and scrap iron. It is the largest recycling company in the central Illinois area.

Joel Erlichman, as well as the employees of I. Erlichman & Sons, will continue to work for Midland Davis at the Peoria location. The company will be known as Midland Davis, Peoria Division, and it will be an operating division of Midland Davis.

Marty Davis, president of Midland Davis, notes that the combination of the two companies will allow his company, first and foremost, to return an adequate return on investment. Also, with the two facilities, the company will be able to achieve some economies of scale.

Also, while Midland Davis has, for the most part, avoided much of the street and peddler traffic, the addition of the former Erlichman operation will allow the combined entity to increase the amount of material they take in, as well as expand the types of material that the company will handle.

One other advantage of the acquisition is that the Peoria plant is less than 100 miles away from the Midland Davis facility, which makes for a fairly easy commute between the two facilities.
