Mid America Recycling Expands

Creates largest recycled paper converting company in the Midwest.

Mid America Recycling, Des Moines, Iowa, one of the nation's largest multi-material recycling companies, has announced the purchase of American Paper Corporation, Minneapolis.

American Paper converts scrap and recycled paper into usable products such as packing paper, slip-sheets and specialty-shredded paper.  Mid America will combine its Lincoln, Neb., paper converting business with American Paper. The company will operate as American Paper LLC.

“Today the recycling industry demands diversification of end markets for recycled products, and we're continuing to capitalize on opportunities that offer value to our customers and shareholders,” Brian Meng, president of Mid America Recycling, says.

Additional benefits of the purchase include:

  •  Greater, more cost effective converting paper distribution for industry in the Upper Midwest with the addition of Mid America's 600 semi-trailer fleet to the business.
  • Nine jobs will be retained at American Paper Corp. in Minneapolis, with additional jobs planned in the next 12 months.
  • Analysis of the existing converting and recycling market structure in the Minneapolis\St. Paul area to provide more competitive services where needed.
