The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is offering grant money that has been earmarked to enhance and improve local and regional recycling programs.
Additionally, the DEQ will start an awards program to recognize outstanding recycling partners.
The programs follows Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposal to double the state’s recycling rate to 30 percent within the next two years.
To help communities with their recycling efforts, the DEQ is offering up to $600,000 during fiscal year 2015 as part of its Community Pollution Prevention Grant Program. Nonprofit organizations, local and tribal governments, local health departments, municipalities and regional planning agencies can apply for the grants. Requests for funding will be accepted through April 1, 2015.
Additionally, in conjunction with the Governor’s Recycling Council, the DEQ will recognize excellence in recycling at the Governor’s Recycling Summit May 5, 2015. Businesses, institutions, government agencies, nonprofits and other organizations helping to achieve Snyder’s recycling goals will be recognized. The Excellence in Recycling Awards will celebrate success in the collection, processing and use of recycled materials as well as the creation of recycled products.
