The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has announced the availability of $500,000 for scrap tire recycling efforts through the state’s Scrap Tire Market Development Grant program.
The money will be earmarked for both public and private companies that present unique methods for reusing or recycling old tires.
Michigan’s Scrap Tire Market Development grants are made available through Michigan’s Scrap Tire Regulatory Fund, which reimburse up to 50 percent of the cost to purchase scrap tires, equipment or for research and development to provide a new or increased use for scrap tires.
Interested parties are required to submit a Letter of Interest to the DEQ by Jan. 30, 2012. The Letter of Interest must be approved by the agency before a full application can be submitted.
More information, including application packets and the Letter of Interest form, is available on the DEQ website, http://www.michigan.gov/deq/0,4561,7-135-3312_4122-82217--,00.html.
An application packet also can be obtained by contacting the Scrap Tire Regulatory Program, Resource Management Division, DEQ, P.O. Box 30241, Lansing, Mich. 48909-7741 or by calling 517-241-2924.
