The Albion, Mich. City Council has approved a plan for a local recycling company, Northwest Refuse Co., to operate a drop-off site in the city. Material collected through the drop-off site would be picked up and delivered to Northwest’s recycling facility in Jackson, Mich., a city adjacent to Albion.
According to a spokesman for Northwest, the drop off site would be maintained by the recycling company. The only responsibility for the city would be to help in promoting the site to residents of the city, as well as some possible cleanup of the site.
The drop-off site will start with collecting old newspaper, glass, and aluminum, tin and steel cans. However, if the program is successful, the company says it would be happy to expand the program to take in more material.
According to local press reports the plan will be launched on a trial basis for up to six months and will take effect as soon as the building authority and Northwest agree on details, he said. The Northwest spokesman said that right now lawyers are going over the agreement to ensure that everything is clear.
