The vehicle producer has signed a 10-year agreement with Cartakeback to provide MG Rover last owners with a free take back service, beginning January 21007.
Under the regulations, MG Rover must ensure last owners do not have to drive their end of life vehicles more than 30 miles to dispose of them, while 75 percent of last owners should not have to drive more than 10 miles.
The network of collection points and authorizd treatment facilities provided by Cartakeback for MG Rover will develop throughout 2005, the company said.
Rob Oldake, MG Rover product development director, said: "We now look forward to working with Cartakeback to ensure the actual re-use/recovery performance of our vehicles moves from the current levels of around 77% to the new legislated targets of 85% in 2006 and 95% in 2015."
Cartakeback Ltd is a subsidiary of UK Shredders Ltd, which, in turn, is backed by a group of independent metals recyclers. Letsrecycle.com.
