The environment department of Mexico's Federal District is drafting a standard to ensure that construction companies take responsibility for the waste they generate at job sites, DF environment secretary Claudia Sheimbaum said.
The idea is for companies to recycle waste to prevent the proliferation of illegal construction debris dumps, Sheimbaum added, quoted in local paper La Reforma.
The department along with the DF's general urban services directorate is also analyzing the possibility of building construction waste-specific landfills, she said, commenting that localities Iztapalapa and Tlalpan could be possible sites.
