Germany-based MeWa Recycling Maschinen und Anlagenbau GmbH has put a modern refrigeration equipment processing system into operation in
“The system makes it possible to process CFC and pentane equipment at the same time, without them having to be sorted beforehand,” says MeWa managing director, Helmut Oberguggenberger.
In the new disposal facility, up to 300,000 refrigeration systems or 90, 000 tons of CFC a year will be processed, according to the press release. This equates to savings of around 900,000 tons of CO2 per year, the company says.
The patented Me Wa Querstromzerspaner (QZ) is capable of processing around 60 refrigeration devices per hour in an isolated system, the company says. With its rotating chains, the machine can entirely dismantle the individual fractions. The shredded PU foam is sieved off and freed from the CFC residue. The environmentally harmful gas is subsequently cooled in the cryo-condensation and liquefied; then collected in special containers and later disposed of.
After the MeWa-QZ has done its work, mechanical procedures then separate the iron, other metals and the plastics from one another. When cleanly separated, the products continue to generate high revenues, even in the current difficult market climate, the company says.
