Global equipment provider Metso Corp. says it has signed an agreement to acquire the recycling operations and induction heating technology development capabilities of Finland-based TL Solution.
Metso, which also is based in Finland but operates globally, says the acquisition will allow it to enhance “its innovative mill lining recycling technology development and customer service capabilities.”
TL Solution is described by Metso as a privately owned company with which it has worked previously to develop recycling technology.
Metso says it was the first company in the market to introduce mill liner recycling services using induction heating technology, which it calls Poly-Met and which was launched in 2022. The mill liners targeted for the service are used in size reduction and separation activities in the mining, quarrying and concrete recycling sectors.
“Metso started mill lining recycling development already more than 10 years ago,” says Martin Karlsson, a senior vice president with Metso. “The technology is a first-of-its-kind service, and we are proud to take the next step in this journey. Following our successful collaboration with TL Solution, we are now adopting this unique separation technology and operations in-house. This move reinforces our commitment to sustainable innovation and circularity in mining.”
Metso says its recycling service is available to mill lining service contract customers currently in Europe and Chile and it is preparing to expand the service to North America.
“By having complete control over the development and implementation of mill liner recycling solutions, we can ensure that our services are consistently high-quality, scalable and tailored to the unique needs of each customer,” says Karlsson.
Metso estimates the acquisition will be finalized in August 2025 and says both companies have agreed not to disclose the transaction value.
The mill liner recycling service addresses “a significant sustainability challenge in the mining industry by providing a solution for the disposal of worn mill liners,” states Metso.
The technology involves what Metso calls the “safe and efficient separation of different rubber and metal liner components, like cast inserts, wear plates and backing plates.”
Metso says composite liners, such as its Megaliner and Poly-Met liners, as well as rubber mill liners also can be processed with the technology. The firm says it also has an established process for recycling metallic mill liners.
