Metso has announced that its mASP25 and mASP50 Aspirators will soon be out in the field helping prepare and separate auto shredder residue (ASR) for better metals recovery, according to the equipment company.
Gene Nasierowski of Metso’s Brunswick, Ohio, location, says the units are designed “using fundamental principles of air flow, with density, shape and the key principle of terminal velocity.”
Continues Nasierowski, “When the ASR falls and an air flow crosses the material flow, one can separate the lighter, less dense materials from the heavier, denser materials. The Metso Aspirator uses a zig-zag material flow pattern, which creates higher efficiencies of separation at each level.”
He adds, “When an ASR material reaches its maximum downward fall speed—its terminal velocity—the cross-flow air will then float the lighter materials out of the falling ASR and into a downstream cyclone.”
