MeTech International Ltd., based in Singapore, has signed an electronic equipment repair partnership agreement with R-Logic International Pte Ltd., also based in Singapore. The venture will allow MeTech to diversify its business from precious metal recovery and ferrous and nonferrous metal recycling to include the repair and reuse of electronic equipment.
U.S.-based MeTech Recycling provides electronic scrap management services including the recycling of electronic and electrical equipment as well as the recovery of precious metals. The company operates five plants in the United States and one in Singapore and serves markets in North America, Europe and Asia.
R-Logic International has been in the reverse logistics business since 1999. The company’s client base includes OEMs such as HP, Dell, BenQ and Chi Mei. Its services include customer interfacing, customer call management, technical support centers, inventory management, supply management and repairs. The company repairs automatic teller machines, motherboards, hubs and switches, tape drives, notebooks, memory and LCD displays and other equipment.
The reverse logistics firm now has a presence in Singapore, India, China and Malaysia, which it says allows it to serve customers throughout Asia.
The newly formed partnership will operate under the name MeTech ReversLog Pte Ltd. The subsidiary will be involved in the repair, reuse and recycling of electronic equipment for customers in North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia.
MeTech says the long-term prospects for this sector are strong and that with many governments imposing targets to reduce waste and cut down on landfills, there will be great demand for such services. In Europe the electronic scrap recycling rate target is 85 percent by 2016. In Singapore, the National Environmental Agency has set overall recycling targets of 65 percent and 70 percent by 2020 and 2030, respectively.
