MetalSite Overhauls Website, Launches New RFQ System

Web site relaunches with innovations, new features.

MSA MetalSite, a subsidiary of Management Science Associates, Inc. has successfully launched a new version of its Internet metals marketplace, www.metalsite.net, including a new RFQ system.

“We have completely overhauled the website, giving it a new look and feel, and streamlining the functionality to make it much more user-friendly,” said Patrick Gallagher, president of MSA MetalSite. “Users will find navigation much easier and will be able to locate products for sale much faster with our powerful new search features, including a keyword search. And, if they can’t find the steel they want to buy in our Auction or Product Catalog, they will now be able to create a Request-for-Quote with our new RFQ system.”

The RFQ system will enable users who pay a nominal monthly subscription fee to create and post RFQs reflecting their steel needs.  All registered users of MSA MetalSite will be able to review and respond to the RFQs for free, and deals can be completed via e-mail or over the telephone.  MSA MetalSite is offering a free trial subscription to users who want to try out the new service.

In addition to the keyword search, other new search features in this latest release include the ability to create custom searches and refine them with user-specified parameters as well as the ability to save and recall searches for repeat use.

All users of the website will now be able to view products available for sale without logging in.  “This serves as an enticement to potential new Buyers, who can see if we have the steel they need before deciding whether or not they want to take the time to register with us,” Mr. Gallagher said.  Product categories, quantities, dimensions, and other attributes are displayed to all users; however, pricing and the identity of the seller are only displayed to authorized buyers upon logging in to the website.

MSA MetalSite has also upgraded its Auction system to provide a “Buy Now” option.  When listing an item for auction, a seller can specify a “Buy Now” price.  Buyers have the option of placing a normal bid on the item and letting the auction run its course, hoping that they are the winning bidder, or matching the “Buy Now” price, which ends the auction and enables them to be awarded the item immediately.  “A buyer who has an immediate need for the material may not want to wait several days for an auction to end,” said Todd Zahniser, manager of Commercial Services for MSA MetalSite.  “This option enables them to get the material much quicker if they are willing to pay the Buy Now price.”
