Canton, Ohio-based recycled-content steelmaker Metallus has agreed to continue negotiating with United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1123 chapter to reach extension on a contract that is set to expire in late September.
The extension will allow negotiations to continue through Oct. 15 as both sides work toward a mutually acceptable agreement, according to Metallus, which changed its name from TimkenSteel last year.
“Negotiations are progressing constructively,” Metallus CEO Mike Williams says. “We remain focused on reaching a collaborative agreement that supports the long-term success of the company and meets the needs of all stakeholders. Our commitment to strong cash generation and sustained profitability across market cycles remains firm, as does our dedication to serving customers and operating safely.”
The current agreement covers approximately 1,200 employees at the company’s Canton operations, which include a recycled-content steel electric arc furnace melt shop.
Metallus manufactures high-performance specialty metals from recycled steel for use in applications in the industrial, automotive, energy and aerospace and defense sectors.
