Metalico Acquires Assets of Two Companies

Holding company looks to strengthen its business with addition of two more facilities.

Metalico Inc. announced it is acquiring all of the operating assets of Union Processing Corp., and Consolidated Transportation Inc.'s affiliated companies in upstate New York.

Metalico has two facilities in upstate New York area -- Lake Erie Recycling, Buffalo, and Metalico Aluminum Recovery Inc., Lackawanna.

Metalico is a holding company with operations in two business segments -- ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal recycling, and fabrication of lead-based products. Union Processing Corp. is an automobile shredder in the Rochester market while Consolidated Transportation primarily transports raw material into the shredder and shredded steel to consumers. The facilities that Metalico is buying are located in North Chili near Rochester and Auburn in central New York.

Metalico Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Aguero said the deal will allow the company to ship raw materials from its Buffalo and Rochester operations and to upgrade many ferrous scrap grades by processing them through the shredder instead of stationary shears.

The deal is expected to close in the second quarter.
