Metal Recycling Services wins safety award

Metal Recycling Services, (MRS) wholly owned by Cincinnati-based David J. Joseph Co., has announced that all four of its North Carolina locations have won the North Carolina Department of Labor’s (NDOL) “Certificate of Safety Achievement” for 2013. This is the second year in a row that MRS locations in the North Carolina cities of Monroe, Marion and Whiteville were recognized for their safety records; it is the first year for the Gastonia location.

All four of the facilities were awarded the NDOL’s Gold level Certificate of Safety Achievement, the state’s highest safety award. The awards, presented by North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry, recognized each MRS recycling location’s outstanding safety and health efforts and the promotion of safe working conditions in 2013.

The annual awards program, run by the NCDOL, recognizes companies that strive to excel in safety. To qualify for the Gold award, each company must have 10 or more full-time employees, no lost-time accidents and achieved incident rates 50 percent below their NAICS code.

Active participation throughout all levels of the organization is key to the success of our safety process and we continue to explore new ways to improve safety in our plants. MRS’ recycling facilities include two automobile shredders, balers, shears, mobile shearing, torch processing, auto crushers and an extensive truck and railcar fleet.
