Nolan Perin and his business partner, RPM Recycling Inc., can prepare plans to develop a 9-acre in Plainfield Township, PA, as a scrap metal processing facility.
Perin was scheduled for a hearing Wednesday, May 4th, before the township Zoning Hearing Board to seek a zoning code interpretation or variance that would allow a recycling facility within Perin's proposed 125-acre Slate Belt Industrial Center. The site is in a commercial-industrial zone.
The hearing was canceled after zoning officer Charles Knecht agreed with Perin's attorney, Anthony Martino, that the recycling facility would be a permitted use within a planned industrial park such as the one proposed by Perin's company, NAPER Development Co. That clears the way for Perin to submit a land-development plan for the site.
Perin said the operation would employ 10 and would mechanically separate, shred and grind up ferrous and nonferrous metals such as discarded automotive parts, appliances, furniture, roofing and siding. Up to 400 tons of material could be processed daily.
Perin said the operation would not handle any car batteries, fuel tanks or other hazardous materials. Allentown (Pennsylvania) Morning Call
