Metal Recycling Corp. acquires Sol Alman Co.

Metal Recycling Corp., Little Rock, Arkansas, has announced that it plans to purchase the assets of Sol Alman Co. in Little Rock, effective Dec. 18.

According to a news release from Metal Recycling Corp., Sol Alman is the oldest scrap metal recycling facility in Arkansas, and it is currently owned and operated by the founding family. Sol Alman was founded in 1905 by Charles Alman, the grandfather of current owners, Charles Alman and Larry Alman. Their father, Sol Alman, ran the company from 1942 until his retirement in 1982.

Metal Recycling reports that Sol Alman has provided recycling services to Arkansas citizens and companies from its current location on E. 9th Street in downtown Little Rock for decades. Metal Recycling says the acquired business will continue buying, processing and recycling scrap metals from the same location under the name “Alman Recycling Co.”

Charles and Larry Alman will maintain their executive management roles at Alman Recycling, with Charles Alman as chairman and Larry Alman as president. Metal Recycling says all existing Sol Alman managers and employees are being retained.

Steve Ronnel, also a co-owner of Metal Recycling Corp., adds that the company founder, Lee Ronnel, who is also his and Mike's father, has always believed in smart growth for the business. He says acquiring Sol Alman was a “great fit” for the company.

Sol Alman Chairman Charles Alman says he and Larry had looked for a firm that had “integrity” and shared Sol Alman’s belief in civic involvement and financial stability.

Sol Alman President Larry Alman adds that combining the Ronnel and Alman families “will bring 200 years of recycling management experience to the table for the benefit of our customers.”

With this acquisition, Metal Recycling Corp. will operate three full-service scrap metal recycling facilities in Arkansas.
