Hal Jernigan, who spent more than 25 years with Allied Metal Co., Chicago, has passed away. Jernigan, who spent his entire career in the metals industry, began working at Alloys and Chemicals in Cleveland in 1961. From there, he moved to the manufacturing side of the business, eventually working with companies such as Don Carole Alloys, Bensenville, Ill.; Lisner Corp., Chicago; and Allied Metal Co. in 1979.
Jernigan was instrumental in helping expand Allied in both size and technology. According to Allied Metal’s Joel Fink, Jernigan helped the company acquire the Harco aluminum plant in 1981 and was instrumental in Allied’s purchase of the Signal Alloy plant in Chattanooga, Tenn. in 1995.
Joel Fink, Allied Metal Co. president and CEO, says, “Hal Jernigan came from the old school of a tireless work ethic. I’ve known him for 27 years and in that time his two greatest accomplishments were setting up Allied Metal Co.’s molten aluminum operation, as well as inventing our state-of-the- art mobile furnace. He will be greatly missed by both the Allied and Fink Family.”
