MD Recycling Looks to Build Aluminum Recycling Facility

Project in Tennessee hopes to rekindle aluminum recycling markets.

The Greene County (Tenn.) Partnership announced that MD Recycling Inc., a new company, will open a new manufacturing facility in western Greene County by this fall.

MD Recycling “will provide economical and environmentally sound aluminum scrap recycling services to companies in the region that manufacture aluminum products,” stated the GCP in a press release.

A majority interest in the new company is held by C&C Millwright Maintenance Co. Inc., which obtained the vacant but inoperative plant that had been intended for use by Aluminum Recycling Technologies (A.R.T.), according to an article by the Greeneville (Tenn.) Sun.

However, the project ran into financial difficulties, and before the project was complete the construction of the facility was halted.

C&C Millwright, building contractor for the A.R.T. building, obtained the partially completed plant.

The plant that MD Recycling will be using has been completed, but now needs to be equipped. According to a spokeswoman for the Greene County Partnership, the project is roughly 60,000 square feet under a roof. The project also is located in an area that has a significant number of other industrial operations.

The facility will employ approximately 35 people after one year of operation. It is expected to be complete and operational by this November.

Johnson, president of MD Recycling, said in the release, “MD Recycling Inc. is very excited to become a member of the Greene County industrial community. The strong community support for industry expansion here is well documented.

“The outstanding quality and commitment of the Greene County labor force will allow MD Recycling Inc. to become a valued member of the industrial base in Greene County.

“Over the past three years of planning for this facility, many local leaders, individuals and businesses have contributed to the successful establishment of MD Recycling Inc. “

Meetings have been held between Tennessee Valley Authority officials and company representatives to discuss available TVA loan assistance. “TVA has established revolving loan programs to help assure that the infrastructure and equipment needed for economic growth can be available throughout the state,” said Tom Olterman of TVA.

“These loan programs are operated in cooperation with other public and private economic development organizations. Although the funding has not been formally approved, TVA has indicated that it would consider providing some equipment costs and other infrastructure needs for this project,” Olterman said.

“We anticipate that as the business of MD Recycling Inc. grows, our community will benefit as well." The Greeneville (Tennessee) Sun
