MBA receives first delivery from new EMR plant

MBA Polymers has announced that its processing plant in Worksop, U.K., has received the first load of automotive shredder residue (ASR) from European Metal Recycling’s (EMR) new recycling facility in Oldbury, U.K. EMR is MBA Polymer’s joint venture partner on the project.

The shipment totaled 20 metric tons of plastic scrap, which is being processed and will be transformed into high quality plastic resin for use in a range of manufacturing applications. MBA says the new EMR facility is the largest in the U.K, and is the main feeder yard for EMR’s operations throughout the U.K.

"This first delivery marks the beginning of an exciting new phase of expansion for MBA," says Nigel Hunton, CEO of MBA Polymers. "We're delighted to be working with our partner EMR to scale up our production capacity in the U.K., and look forward to a steady stream of high-quality feedstock from Oldbury."

Earlier this year MBA announced that through a significant capital infusion it would expand its Worksop production capacity by 40 percent to 50,000 metric tons per year. Paul Mayhew, MBA’s global sourcing manager, says that the facility expects to grow the amount of material it will be taking in as the EMR facility expands its throughput.
