Germany’s Max Becker Trading adds new Sennebogen electric crawler

The 850 R Special Electro is used for charging the scrap shears and sorting material at the company’s Cologne port facility.

The scrap metal company Max Becker Trading, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, has added a new Sennebogen 850 R Special Electro scrap handler at its Cologne Niehl port facility. The electric scrap handler is used for charging the scrap metal shears and for material sorting, Sennebogen reports.

Max Becker Trading GmbH uses a new electrically-powered Sennebogen 850 R Special for sorting scrap and charging the large scrap metal shears at its site in Cologne Niehl.
Max Becker Trading, founded in 1994, added its first Sennebogen material handling machines in its second year in business. The Max Becker site uses two 835 M units to move, sort, store and prepare scrap material for processing of scrap metal and for further transport by ship.

The new handler was delivered in 2014 by Sennebogen’s sales and service partner Baumaschinen Rhein-Ruhr (BRR) of Herne, Germany. It was supplied from Sennebogen with a factory-fitted 1,000-liter-capacity HGT 1000 multi-shell grapple, which features a five-shell semi-open grapple with forged tips. According to Sennebogen, the grapple’s optimized hydraulic flow ensures fast opening and closing and guarantees maximum closing forces.

Sennebogen reports that the 850 R Special has been equipped with a 250-kilowatt electric motor upon customer request, and that the motor saves about 50 percent of the energy and operating costs compared with the diesel-powered previous version. The handler offers a reach of more than 20 meters and covers an area of just under 1,300 square meters, Sennebogen adds.

The company says the stable crawler undercarriage features a 4.90-meter track width, offering safe and flexible use of the handler over the entire compound. To provide the necessary overview and reach for filling the scrap shears, the machine was elevated by five meters by means of a tube pylon at Max Becker's request. Combined with the 1-meter rigid cabin elevation, the elevation offers an ideal overview of his entire work area, Lothar Lenzen, Max Becker’s operator, says.

The unit also features the Sennebogen Mastercab, built for operator comfort and ideal ergonomics, and all-around safety glass. The extensive camera system and the LED lighting set helps ensure a safe work environment, even in poor weather, Sennebogen says.

Sennebogen says the electric machine offers the additional benefits of constant motor performance in all load ranges, extended maintenance intervals, lower service costs and a lower level of background noise.
