Matech highlights Tiger 300

Machine is designed to extract copper from electric motors.

Matech BV, a Dutch-based supplier of machinery for recycling ferrous and nonferrous scrap, cables and other materials, is now offering the Tiger 300, a piece of equipment that targets the recovery of copper from olds electric motors.

According to Matech, the Tiger 300 is a specific compact electric motors recycling machine that is ideally suited for small and midsized companies. Matech says that with the copper being a valuable material, its new machine can provide a solution to companies looking to cost-effectively remove copper from the motors. Until now, the company points out, the only way to remove the copper was using a much larger machine and removing the material on a larger scale.

The Tiger 300’s process consists of three steps: First, the electric motor’s housing is cracked with a hydraulic chisel; then, a sorting can be made of the anchor, stator and housing. The stator is placed in a V-holder and cut in two with a specially designed knife.

The copper from the two stator halves is then placed in a clamp system. While the copper is clamped, the iron rings around the motors are removed by a push system. The result is a clean separation of copper and iron, according to the company.

The extraction process takes only a few minutes and is performed by a compact, robust machine weighing only around 1,500 kilograms, Matech says. Additionally, the Tiger 300 has a 4-kilowatt motor, making it more energy efficient.
