MassDevelopment, an agency dedicated to investing in businesses in the state of Massachusetts, has issued a $5 million tax exempt bond to ABC&D Recycling to allow the company to expand its operations in Ware, Mass. The company will use the money to purchase equipment, as well as expand its facility to allow it to handle a greater amount of construction and demolition material.
After the expansion is complete the C&D recycler will have the capacity to recycle an additional 195,000 tons of C&D material a year.
MassDevelopment said construction projects in the state generate nearly 5 million tons of waste each year. Currently, most of it -- 43 percent -- is incinerated, with another 19 percent sent to landfills and 38 percent being recycled. The agency said recycling more will reduce costs to the state in the long run by extending the time landfills can be used.
ABC&D Recycling President Richard O'Riley said the firm products wood fuel, asphalt and pothole filler, among other secondhand materials, from the waste it collects. Boston Business Journal
