Maryland Company Charged with Illegal Disposal

Maryland’s Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, announced that Donald Spargo and Spargo Enterprizes Corp. Brandywine, Md., have been charged in County Circuit Court with illegal disposal of solid waste.

The charging documents allege that from March 12, 2005 through April 28, 2005 Spargo illegally disposed of litter for commercial gain on two adjoining lots in Capitol Heights, Md. The charges state that construction and demolition material, scrap tires, paper, plastic bags and garbage in amounts exceeding 216 square feet was disposed of.

The corporation and the individual have each been charged with four counts. If convicted of the offenses, Spargo and the corporation could receive a maximum fine of $30,000 for each count and the individual could also receive a maximum of five years in jail. The filing of criminal charges is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing and each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

These charges follow a joint investigation conducted by the Environmental Crimes Unit of the Office of the Attorney General, the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland State Police. An initial appearance date has been set for May 12, 2006 in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County in Upper Marlboro for both defendants.
