Missouri MARC Offering Grant Money for Recycling Projects

Grant funds available for waste reduction, reuse and recycling projects.

The Missouri’s Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District has issued a call for grant applications for fiscal year 2011 for waste reduction, reuse and recycling projects. Local governments, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and individuals are eligible to apply for funds.

All projects must be located within the MARC Solid Waste Management District, which includes Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri. The district receives funds for the grant program from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The district has identified project targets to address specific needs in the district; however, applications are not limited to these targets. Specific needs are curbside or drop-off recycling; cooperative yard-waste management; public awareness; special-venue recycling; glass recycling; regional recycling facilities; food-waste diversion; zero or near-zero waste at facilities; and high-volume waste streams such as paper, plastic and food waste.

In addition to the open grant call, the district has established a separate targeted application for local governments that wish to purchase parks and/or special event recycling containers.

The district will host three informational sessions to explain the grant objectives and the application process:  Wednesday, June 9; Friday, June 18; or Wednesday, June 23, all at 10:00 am. Sessions will be held at the MARC offices, 600 Broadway, Suite 200, Kansas City, Missouri. An RSVP is not necessary. District staff will also be available to meet individually with those who cannot attend an information session.
