A Calgary man has been charged with falsely claiming incentives under Alberta's Tire Recycling program.
The program was set up to find ways to use up huge stockpiles of old tires.
Companies are paid based on the weight of shredded scrap tires. Larry Cole, 61, the former president of Western Tire Shredders, was charged with fraud and forgery by the RCMP's Commercial Crimes section. Police say the charges relate to tires brought in from outside Alberta. Cole will appear in court later this month.
