A Germany-based precious metals recycling company has chosen Spartanburg, South Carolina, as the home for a new $4.6 million facility.
According to a news release from the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Germany’s MAIREC will hire up to 35 workers over the next five years as it ramps up a plant scheduled to begin operating by September 2015.
MAIREC, on its website, says it conducts “separation, concentration, homogenization and sampling” operations to “correctly determine the value of material and optimize it for the smelting process.”
Among the materials and items it recycles are catalytic converters, circuit boards, industrial catalysts and incinerator residues. The Spartanburg plant will be the first overseas location for MAIREC.
“Congratulations to MAIREC for deciding to establish operations in South Carolina, joining a roster of more than 500 recycling companies that call our state home,” South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt says.
