Mainetti, an Italian packaging and fashion supplies company with United States headquarters in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, has opened a new factory in the Hung Yen Province of Vietnam, based in Minh Quang Industrial Park.

The company says the facility’s opening marks a significant step in its continued expansion into Southeast Asia to develop flexible packaging products to customers in the region and tap into what it views as a dynamic market.

The facility spans 5,000 square meters and is set to employ 200 workers once operations are at full capacity and is expected to produce up to 3,000 metric tons of bags annually—equating to about 360 million bags—with the majority of their components made from recycled materials.

Additionally, the facility will use high-speed, high-efficiency machinery to enable large-scale production, such as automated grip and stacking fixtures that will allow operators to multitask, and real-time display panels designed to enhance visibility by showing the hourly output and production dimension settings.

“We are proud to share the news of our expansion into Vietnam’s Hung Yen Province, which will enable us to deliver responsible plastic packaging to our customers,” says Michelle Boon, global head of flexible packaging at Mainetti. “Vietnam is a rapidly growing market, and we look forward to the facility operating at full capacity so we can better serve key customers, such as Gap Inc., Columbia Sportswear, Lululemon and Amazon, while also allowing us to unlock new opportunities in the region.”

Mainetti says it considers Asia a key business hub, and its investment in Vietnam follows its recent operational expansions in Dhaka, Bangladesh in February 2024. This opening was part of the company’s five-year growth plan to expand into Asia and scale Mainetti Polyloop, a closed-loop recycling system for clear polyethylene film.

In Vietnam, Mainetti says it is prioritizing speed and efficiency to deliver its flexible packaging solutions with the use of 10-meter-tall blowing machines and by combining lines with steel structures that save on space and enable operators to attend to the machines more easily.

“Through this latest venture in Vietnam, Mainetti endeavors to build strong partnerships and continue empowering its customers to create the future by delivering sustainably produced packaging, branding and supply chain solutions,” the company says.
