Maine Recycler Recognized by EPA

Cooperative has been able to boost recycling levels in rural parts of the state.

Coastal Recycling Corp., a Hancock, Maine, recycling center, has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with an Environmental Merit Award.

 

The award, given out annually, recognizes groups and individuals who are committed to protecting the environment in the area.

 

Coastal Recycling has been in operation for 14 years. The facility takes in material from individuals, towns or companies who seek to have the material shipped to the Maine Municipal Recycling Association.

 

The town of Hancock leases the and building to Coastal Recycling.

 

Before Coastal started collecting recyclables the material was either landfilled or incinerated.

 

PA administrators acknowledge Coastal Recycling's accomplishments, including the ability to boost rates for commercial recycling in the area.

 

"Coastal has withstood the test of time and still strives to provide recycling services to this rural coastal region," it said.
