Maguire blender suitable for regrind

Company’s new 1200 series blender can handle up to 12 plastic compound ingredients.

Aston, Pennsylvania-based Maguire Products Inc. says its new 1200 Series blenders can dispense up to 12 ingredients and offer expanded capacity for recycled-content and virgin resin production.

The company says its new blenders can help ”address the growing need to use more regrind and postconsumer resin along with virgin polymers.”

According to Maguire, its “new series of gravimetric blenders for larger throughput applications precisely dispenses up to 12 materials of widely diverse types and can be configured to dose up to six major ingredients, including virgin polymer, regrind and postconsumer resin (PCR).”

The Maguire Weigh Scale Blender (WSB) 1200 Series has a throughput range of from 900 to 2,040 kilograms per hour (2,000 to 4,500 pounds per hour) and is suitable for extrusion, high-volume injection and blow molding and central blending applications, says the firm.

The series is the latest addition to Maguire’s WSB product range, which already includes more than 120 models with throughputs ranging from 40-to-5,500 kilograms per hour (90-to-12,125 pounds per hour). Maguire says it has sold more than 58,000 WSBs since it introduced the gravimetric blender in 1989.

Among the ingredients the 1200 Series blenders can dispense are pellets, powders, liquids and “poorly flowing ingredients like regrind, flake, wood flour and talc filler.” Each ingredient hopper has a dispensing device designed for a material in a specific form according to Maguire.

“The WSB 1200 Series blenders enable processors working in a somewhat smaller throughput range to meet growing demand for products that incorporate regrind and PCR along with virgin resin,” says Frank Kavanagh, the firm’s vice president of marketing and sales.  “And like all Maguire blenders across the throughput range, the 1200 Series WSBs provide consistent accuracy of plus or minus 0.1 percent for every material dispensed into the weigh chamber, regardless of its form.”

Maguire Products says it planned to display the 1200 Series for the first time at the Chinaplas 2020 trade show in Shanghai, April 21-24. However, that show has been postponed indefinitely because of the coronavirus outbreak in China.

Pennsylvania-based Maguire describes itself as the world’s largest supplier of gravimetric blenders, liquid color pumps and vacuum dryers and also makes loading systems, auger feeders, granulators and related equipment and software for the plastics industry. The company operates six manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania and has six sales and service subsidiaries for the global market in Canada, China, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
