Magnets Make History

History Channel program puts the spotlight on magnets, including those in scrap applications.

The History Channel, part of A&E Television Networks, New York, has begun airing an episode of its show “Modern Marvels” that concentrates on magnets, including a segment on their role in scrap recycling.

According to Ken Richendollar, Sales Manager at Ohio Magnetics Inc., Maple Heights, Ohio, the episode is already airing in afternoon time slots and is scheduled to air in prime time on Weds., Dec. 6.

A film crew from the program was on location at the Ohio Magnetics-Stearns Magnetics plant in Maple Heights, near Cleveland, earlier this year.

According to Richendollar, the crew also taped footage at the Columbus Auto Shredding scrap recycling facility in Columbus, Ohio.

At Ohio Magnetics Inc., Richendollar and several other employees of the company were interviewed for the episode.

In particular, one of the episode’s four segments will focus on the material handling aspects of magnets and will include the footage shot at Ohio Magnetics and at Columbus Auto Shredding Incl.

Equipment making a prime time appearance on The History Channel includes a 71-inch Ohio Magnetics lifting magnet and two 84-inch-wide Stearns Magnetics drum units.

Other topics covered during the program include ornamental refrigerator magnets, and laser magnets being developed by researchers at universities, according to Richendollar.

He has been told the episode will continue to air periodically. Those seeking specific dates and times can find History Channel programming information at www.History.com.
