Madison Residents Recycle Nearly 29,000 in Electronics

Sharp Electronics helps to cover costs.

More than 29,000 pounds of computer monitors, keyboards, cases and laptops were collected during the semi-annual Computer Round-up, hosted by the City of Madison, Wisc., Dane County, the Madison PC Users Group and Cascade Asset Management Saturday, November 9. The expanded collection included television sets for the first time.

Sharp Electronics covered the cost of recycling its equipment, and individuals paid to recycle other brands of televisions.

More than 350 households from the area participated in the event. Equipment collected in working condition will be refurbished and donated to local non-profit organizations. Cascade Asset Management will recycle the majority of the equipment.

This is Madison’s seventh household computer recycling event. In the past two years, more than 225,000 pounds of computer equipment was collected and recycled.

The next collection day is scheduled for April 2003.
