Plessisville, Quebec-based Machinex’s new system, commissioned mid-April, at a new material recovery facility (MRF) in Lethbridge, Alberta, will allow the city to process single-stream residential recyclables collected through a new blue cart program rolling out in May, according to a news release.
“It is a pleasure for Machinex to be part of this municipal project,” remarks Machinex Technologies CEO Chris Hawn. “Working in collaboration with the city of Lethbridge and its consultant, we have been successful at achieving a sorting system responding well to the needs of the community.”
The 45,000-square-foot MRF is designed to process 8 tons per hour of mixed single-stream material "that comes primarily from residential recyclables, with a limited number of commercial recyclables." It features Machinex sorting and separation equipment, including a drum feeder, a MACH OCC screen and a fines screen at the front of the process, as well as a MACH ONP screen, MACH ballistic separator, a ferrous magnet, nonferrous separator and a Machinex two-ram baler, according to the release.
Commenting on the project, City Project Manager Mandi Parker says, “Working with Machinex has been a delightful experience from the project kickoff to the commissioning of the equipment. Their customer service has been outstanding. They have assisted us through the process of designing and selecting the equipment that is tailored to our specific needs. We are really one team on this project and have worked together like a well-oiled machine. The equipment selected and installed is world-class and we are excited to get our single-stream program launched."
