UK Plastics Recycler Invests in Plastics Granulator

Luxus Ltd., a plastics recycling company based in Lincolnshire, U.K., has invested £120,000 (US$190,000) in a new plastic granulation line that will boost the company’s granulation capacity. According to Luxus,, the new line will granulate large moldings at a rate of one metric ton per hour, increasing the company’s total granulation capacity to 13,000 metric tons per year.

The company says that its investment will allow the company to target growing markets for its closed loop recycling services, especially logistics firms working in the grocery retail sector.

Malcolm Odlin, Luxus’ purchasing manager, says, “Logistics businesses are increasingly looking to drive change across their entire supply chain to meet both cost efficiency and sustainability targets. We find that still many businesses struggle with the problem of how to sustainably manage their transit materials, which are fundamental to the efficiency of their business.

“At Luxus we provide a closed loop service that allows waste generated in the supply chain to transit materials such as plastic crates, boxes and pallets to be re-engineered back into the same product, so entering the system once again - significantly reducing their carbon footprint. Or, we can simply purchase the transit packaging to re-manufacture into new sustainable high quality compound for sale by us – so we turn what’s often seen as a cost and an inconvenience into a revenue stream,” Odlin adds.

Peter Atterby, Luxus’ managing director, says, “This latest investment is part of our business expansion program made possible as a result of funding received as a regional winner of HSBC’s ‘Business Thinking’ award in November last year. We believe that the new line will give us a significant advantage in our key markets, allowing us to deliver a highly cost-competitive service to our customers.”
