Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance adopts standards for lugger truck container securement

The standards were developed in conjunction with ISRI and other industry groups.

Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) says it applauds the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA's) adoption of new lugger truck container securement standards. ISRI worked with the CVSA and other recycling industry groups to develop the standards, which are the first of their kind to meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) regulations 49CFR 393.102(c): What are the minimum performance criteria for cargo securement devices and systems? (c) Equivalent means of securement. ISRI says the standards will simplify cargo securement procedures for operators.

“Over the past few years, ISRI has worked tirelessly with our members to develop this important standard for lugger truck container securement,” says ISRI Senior Director of Transportation Safety Commodor Hall. “We are grateful to the FMCSA and the CVSA for working with us to provide these critical safety standards that meet the needs of recyclers.”

The newly adopted standards provide equivalent means to other standards for lugger truck cargo securement, ISRI says. Most notably, the standards allow an operator to secure a container with less effort. Doing so saves time and money and increases truck use and driver productivity.
