The two companies presented a joint solution showcasing a turnkey platform pairing Living Optics’ video-rate hyperspectral camera with AVerMedia’s industrial-grade edge computer, D315AOB (5G), powered by NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin at Computex 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan. The live demo showed how hyperspectral data can be captured, processed and analyzed on-device to identify materials by their spectral signatures.

A representative for Living Optics says its camera "captures hyperspectral data at video frame rates and is designed specifically for integration into real-world industrial environments—including waste sorting lines. By identifying the unique spectral signatures of materials such as plastics, textiles, paper and composites, the system can dramatically improve separation accuracy, enabling higher-purity output streams and increasing the economic viability of recycling operations."

“This partnership is about moving our hyperspectral technology out of the lab and into the real world,” says Steve Chappell, co-founder and chief technology officer at U.K.-based Living Optics. “AVerMedia’s edge computing platforms offer the reliability and industrial design our customers need, while their global distribution network helps us scale faster. Together, we’re making it dramatically easier for customers to adopt next-generation vision solutions.”

Headquartered in Taiwan, AVerMedia is an application-ready turnkey solutions provider specializing in embedded AI platforms and integrating advanced vision technologies into rugged, deployable form factors designed for real-world applications.

“We’re proud to collaborate with Living Optics to deliver a solution that redefines machine vision at the edge,” says Alex Liu, vice president of Industrial Product Division at AVerMedia. “By combining their powerful hyperspectral imaging with our Jetson-based edge systems, we’re enabling customers to detect, analyze and act on material differences in real time. This opens up exciting new possibilities across industries that demand accuracy, speed and intelligence on-site.”

Living Optics’ hyperspectral camera is available in a co-developed developer kit designed for the AVerMedia platform, simplifying setup for developers and integrators alike.

For end customers, this partnership means faster time to value with less technical complexity, Living Optics says. Instead of piecing together separate imaging and computing components, they have access to a complete, validated system that works out of the box and is built to withstand demanding real-world environments, offering industrial-grade reliability and performance. Whether customers are system integrators building custom platforms or enterprises looking for ready-to-deploy tools, the joint offering delivers a streamlined path to smarter, more actionable insights, according to Living Optics.

By eliminating the complexity of sourcing and integrating separate imaging and computing components, Living Optics says the collaboration enables customers to extract actionable insights from the spectral composition of materials in real time and at the edge.
