Ohio EPA announces changes in light bulb disposal regulations.

The Ohio EPA has announced new regulations that govern the disposal of fluorescent light bulbs.

The new rules tighten regulations on hazardous lamps, including fluorescent light bulbs containing mercury, according to a release from the Ohio EPA.

Lamp recyclers are now required to obtain a hazardous waste storage permit, and generators, owners or operators of hazardous lamp collection sites are subject to hazardous waste management standards.

Previously, hazardous lamps bound for recycling were not defined as a waste and were not subject to regulation under Ohio hazardous waste rules, according to the release.
