Liebherr, Newport News, Virginia, plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its USA business during ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020, which takes place March 10-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
“From an earnest start in Virginia in 1970, Liebherr has built its USA business on a foundation of trust, innovation and engagement with customers,” the company states in a news release on its anniversary. “Five decades later, the company’s growth, diversity and stability is evidence of how Liebherr employees are united by success as the company continually moves toward new achievements. Each decade in business and each customer served has positioned Liebherr in a leadership role in multiple industries, such as petrochemical, transportation, aerospace, construction, earthmoving and mining.”
In 2020, Liebherr plans to open an expanded headquarters in Newport News. The company will be expanding the facility by 251,000 square feet. According to a news release from Liebherr, the new facilities will add space that will support employees in sales, service and product support and are evidence of the company’s commitment to the U.S. market.
“With an added 251,000 square feet of space, Liebherr USA Co. will be positioned to serve customers for the next 50 years,” the company states in a news release.
Liebherr also plans to showcase a wide selection of earthmoving and construction equipment at its outdoor booth #F5258 at the Festival Grounds. The company’s product range of components for mechanical, hydraulic and electric-drive systems will also be on display in the south hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at booth #S84321.
Liebherr will display about 30 types of construction machines and material handling equipment at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020. The following are some of the products and material handlers that Liebherr plans to display at the show.
New crawler excavators
At the event, the company will debut a new generation of crawler excavators to the U.S. market. According to a news release from Liebherr, the Generation 8 crawler excavator series includes seven models ranging from 48,500 pounds to 99,200 pounds: R 922, R 924, R 926, R 930, R 934, R 938 and R 945. The new crawler excavator generation features higher engine power, a heavier counterweight for higher bucket capacities and minimal fuel consumption, Liebherr reports. The machines offer optimized load curve. Also, a modified piece at the top of the boom is an innovative new feature on this generation of crawler excavators—this leads to better performance and equipment forces with reduced operating weight of the machine, according to Liebherr.
New cranes
Liebherr also will showcase two new cranes to the American market at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020: the LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane and the LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane.
The LTM 1650-8.1 is designed to deliver maximum performance, Liebherr reports in a news release. In designing the new 8-axle crane, Liebherr focused on maximum load capacities. The LTM 1650-8.1 travels with an axle load of 26,400 pounds complete with its 177-foot telescopic boom and the front supports. To minimize setup time, the rear supports are installed as complete support box in a single hoist and connected using quick-release couplings. Also, Liebherr can offer the LTM 1650-8.1 with a range of transport weights and axle-load versions to ensure cost-effective global mobility for axle loads both above and below 26,400 pounds.
The LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane features outstanding lifting capacities and low-cost transport, Liebherr states in a news release on its ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 display. The LR 1800-1.0 is designed as a powerful industrial crane for jobs with a luffing jib and derrick system, such as power plant construction and petrochemicals industry. The boom system features lattice sections with three system dimensions that can be telescoped into each other for transport. Also, a quick connection to raise the superstructure for transport is standard. The new LR 1800-1.0 also features the derrick ballast with VarioTray—after raising the lattice boom with the large derrick ballast, part of the ballast can be unbolted quickly.
Assistance systems for wheel loaders
Liebherr plans to present four wheel loaders at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020, including the L 566 XPower with power-split travel drive, the L 586 XPower, the L 538 and the L550 models.
According to a news release from Liebherr, the L 538 is a medium-sized loader that comes equipped with parallel kinematics for high holding forces in the upper lift arms area. It is ideal for working in heavy-duty industrial applications such as recycling.
The L 566 XPower is equipped with numerous new assistance systems, which Liebherr is showing for the first time in North America at the event. The new systems include active personnel detection, adaptive working lighting, an integrated tire pressure monitoring system and the weighing system with Truck Payload Assist.
