Liebherr-Hydraulikbagger GmbH has announced that it is investing  35 million euros to build a production logistics center in Kirchdorf an der Iller, Germany. The first phase of construction began June 11 with an official groundbreaking ceremony. The project should be completed at the end of 2020, according to the company.
"With the restructuring and the optimization of the material flow, the logistics center for production will make an important contribution in the future to efficient and high-quality production,” says Matthias Herzog, production manager at Liebherr-Hydraulikbagger GmbH.
In his speech, Herzog thanked the shareholders of the Liebherr family for their trust and the community of Kirchdorf and its Mayor Rainer Langenbacher for their support.
Following completion, the new production logistics center will measure 245 meters by 96 meters with a height of about 22 meters (804 feet by 315 feet with a height of 72 feet).
In the first construction phase, which should be completed by the end of 2019, a new incoming goods area with a high-bay warehouse is to be built. The planned airlock for trucks with a 20-metric-ton crane system will facilitate the acceptance of goods, the company says.
In the second stage, another high-bay warehouse and logistics areas for order picking, consolidation and packaging will be built.
The workstations will be set up with modern technical systems, and the complex logistics requirements will be supported by a warehouse management system. For day-to-day work, modern picking vehicles with a driving assistance system are available to the employees.
Demolition of the existing warehouse and construction of the new facility are taking place during ongoing operations.
Kirchdorf an der Iller is considered the birthplace of the Liebherr Group. Today, Liebherr-Hydraulikbagger develops and produces a comprehensive range of high-quality hydraulic excavators, material handlers and articulated dump trucks in Kirchdorf. The company produces approximately 3,000 machines annually.
