Eight teams from throughout the Great Lakes region converged at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena in March for the second annual Hoops Hysteria fundraising event, organized by the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc.
This year’s event, which took place Weds., March 22, featured the tournament with eight scrap industry teams followed by a buffet dinner and a chance to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Charlotte Bobcats.
In the eight-term tournament, Lakeside Metals of Cleveland defeated the defending champion team from the ISRI Michigan Chapter. Other teams participating included one from the Indiana and Pittsburgh Chapters of ISRI as well as teams from Aleris International, David J. Joseph Co., Metal Conversions and Six Recycling.
More than 150 people participated as players or spectators, helping the ISRI Northern Ohio Chapter raise more than $15,000 or its RRF Scholarship fund.
“We will hold it again next year,” says Michael Eisner of Lakeside Metals, who led the organization of this year’s Hoops Hysteria event.
Eisner noted that the Chapter is seeking more eligible candidates to apply for the RRF (Recycling Research Foundation) scholarships. Candidates must be full-time university students who are employed by an ISRI Northern Ohio Chapter member company or the son or daughter of an employee.
