Lafayette Steel & Aluminum Sales receives safety recognition

Metals company’s Illinois location earns SHARP status.

The Illinois Department of Labor and its Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Illinois OSHA) has recognized the Lafayette Steel & Aluminum Sales LLC office in Franklin Park, Illinois, as part of its Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), which identifies companies that have significant achievements in occupational safety and health.

Lafayette Steel is part of Oscar Winski Co,, which also operates Oscar Winski Metals Recycling in Lafayette, Indiana, and Porter Co. Iron & Metal Recycling LLC in Hebron, Indiana.

Illinois’ SHARP recognizes small businesses who operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. The Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says acceptance of a worksite into SHARP is an achievement of status that distinguishes a business among peers as a model for worksite safety and health.

Upon receiving SHARP recognition, OSHA exempts a company’s worksite from OSHA-programmed inspections during the period that the SHARP certification is valid.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we congratulate Lafayette Steel and & Aluminum for their commitment to workplace safety,” says Illinois OSHA Director Ben Noven. “We hope that other businesses follow in their footsteps and implement similar programs to ensure employees safety and health.”

“We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment with the belief that every incident is preventable,” says Bill Rothrock, company vice president. “It is a priority for those at all levels here at Lafayette Steel & Aluminum Sales. We are honored to accept this award. It will serve as a constant reminder that employee safety and health is central to our company’s values and culture.”
