KW Plastics, a Troy, Ala.-based plastics recycler, has received a letter of no objection from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition to use its postconsumer recycled polypropylene (PP) in the manufacture of reusable crates or pallets for holding relatively large quantities of fresh, unwrapped products and shelled eggs under room temperature and below.
The resin, commercially referred to as KWR 621 FDA, is a food grade PP that has been approved for use at up to 100 percent content.
“We are excited about the FDA’s decision to grant us the no objection letter for KWR 622 FDA. KW Plastics increasingly drives the expansion of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and PP recycled resin markets by the ongoing investment in technology, capital improvements, production efficiency and market diversification,” says Scott Saunders, general manager for KW Plastics Recycling Division.
“KW looks forward to moving our most recent resin into production and the opportunities this will bring our employees as well as our customers,” Saunders adds.
KW recycles HDPE and PP. The company is an ISO: 9001-2000 registered facility with an ISO-IEC 17025: 2005 accredited lab.
