Klöckner Pentaplast pledges to maximize recycling efforts

The company announced a goal to use 100 percent recyclable and sustainably sourced products by 2028.

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), s global plastic packaging and film industry company based in Montabaur, Germany, has launched its Positive Plastics Pledge. According to a company report, the pledge includes a commitment to increase to 100 percent of kp’s usage of recyclable and sustainably sourced polymers by 2028.

“We have big ideas about reducing littering, ensuring that used plastic is appreciated as a valuable new material and addressing climate change, [while] continuing to protect products and prevent food waste through our packaging,” says kp CEO Daniel Dayan in a company report. “We have long recognized the challenges when it comes to the life cycle of plastics and believe a transformational shift is required in the way plastic is managed by our industry, by consumers and by society in general.”

According to a company report, kp’s Positive Plastics Pledge will help the company to commit to doing more with less by reducing the weight of its packaging and using up to 100 percent recycled content where possible. The company says in the report it plans to only use materials that are practically recyclable or sustainably sourced. Additionally, it plans to simplify its polymer and material mix to enable recycling. Also, kp says in the report it plans to engage with consumers and communities about responsible disposal of plastic as well as how plastic can be used as resource.
