A total of 17 counties surrounding Lexington, KY, have agreed to take part in a regional recycling program. According to press reports the 17 counties would bring their collected recyclables to the recycling center in Lexington. The charge for the delivery would be $40 with a portion of the profits from the sale of the recyclables being returned to the different counties.
Bluegrass Regional Recycling Corp. is the vendor slated to take in the recyclables. The program was announced Jan. 31, and was attended Lexington’s Mayor Teresa Ann Isaac, as well as county judge executives from each of the 17 different counties.
The 17 counties fall under the Bluegrass Area Development District. The counties in the district are the following: Anderson, Boyle, Bourbon, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, and Woodford.
The goal of the multi-county project is to reduce the cost of collecting recyclables from many of the counties.
