Kentucky Agency Accepting Grant Applications for Recycling Programs

State’s Division of Waste Management sets deadline of March 15 to apply for grant money.

The State of Kentucky’s Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC), Division of Waste Management, is accepting grant applications for projects that seek to develop an integrated recycling infrastructure, manage household hazardous waste or offer public education programs relating to recycling and household hazardous waste management.

“The focus this year is to build on our previous recycling and household hazardous waste grant award successes and reach out to those counties, cities, urban-county governments and others to apply for the first time to either begin or expand a recycling program or plan a household hazardous waste collection event,” says EEC Secretary Len Peters. “Education is always a vital component to the success of these programs, and grant funds are available to ensure participation in both recycling programs and household hazardous waste collection events,” he adds.

Grant funding comes from the Kentucky Pride Fund, and is underwritten by a $1.75-per-ton fee on municipal solid waste disposed of in the state’s landfills. Local governments, solid waste management districts, public schools, universities and colleges are eligible to apply. Priority is given to applicants for regional projects.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 11, 2011, or received at the Recycling Assistance Section of the Recycling and Local Assistance Branch no later than March 15, 2011. The original application and any supporting documentation must be submitted in order for an application to be complete. Each grant requires a 25 percent local match.
