KCI Konecranes Lands Large Contract in Turkey

Icdas Istanbul Celik Enerji Tersane ve Ulasim Sanayi A.S., a significant Turkish steel producer, has ordered nine steel mill cranes and one crane upgrade from Konecranes. The order was made in December 2006 and the cranes will be delivered to the ICDAS steel mill in Canakkale, Turkey between November 2007 and February 2008. The total value of the order is over 9 MEUR.

Turkey is today among the twelve biggest steel-producing countries in the world and Konecranes aims to capitalize on its strong position in the fast growing Turkish steel industry. This recent order is part of ICDAS' investment project to increase the manufacturing capacity of flat steel products at their second steel melting plant in Canakkale, located at their North Eastern coast of the Marmara Sea.

The order includes one ladle crane, one charging crane, one tundish crane, four scrap yard cranes, two billet cranes with a slewing trolley, and one upgrade of a charging crane from 200 tons to 250 tons.

"We delivered one 300-ton ladle crane and one 200-ton charging crane to ICDAS' first steel melting shop in 2003. Our long-term cooperation and ICDAS' good experience of operating similar products from Konecranes were key factors for winning this repeat order", says Kari Wallgren, Director, Process Cranes.
