Kansas Seeks Input on Proposed Deffenbaugh Transfer Station

Company seeks to convert land it has used to store roll-off containers into a transfer and recycling facility.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), Topeka, Kan., says it is seeking comments from the public on an application from Deffenbaugh Industries, Kansas City, Kan., to operate a solid waste and recycling transfer station in Topeka. The deadline for comments is Sept. 19, 2011.

According to KDHE, the transfer station building being proposed is a pre-engineered free span metal building. The tipping floor within the building will be divided into two sections: one for receiving solid waste, while the other half will take in recyclables.

The site includes a shop building, scale and scale house, office, citizen’s recycling drop-off area, fueling area, truck and trailer parking areas and dumpster/roll-off storage area. At this time, Deffenbaugh plans to transport the transfer station material to other Deffenbaugh-owned facilities.

A copy of the application and public notice has been posted on the KDHE Bureau of Waste Management website at www.kdheks.gov/waste.
