Keep America Beautiful has hired three former National Recycling Coalition executives, signaling KAB’s commitment to provide first-rate resources for recycling professionals, KAB affiliates, and recycling advocates throughout the country.
Ed Skernolis, formerly acting executive director of the NRC, will serve as KAB’s VP of recycling; Anjia Nicolaidis, formerly deputy director of the NRC, will be the KAB’s director of recycling, and Alec Cooley, the NRC’s collegiate programs manager, is joining KAB as its manager of recycling programs.
"With nearly one-third of our affiliates acting as their communities’ recycling coordinators, Keep America Beautiful has been working diligently in the past year to add greater depth and substance to our recycling programs," said Matthew McKenna, KAB’s president and CEO. "We added the Curbside Value Partnership program under the leadership of Steve Thompson at the outset of 2009 to increase participation in existing curbside recycling programs. Now, with the addition of the core staff members of the NRC, we’re poised to expand KAB’s expertise further. We’re very pleased to have Ed, Anjia and Alec on board."
In the newly created VP post, Skernolis will help develop KAB’s recycling programs and will help the organization chart a course toward stronger recycling programs and advocacy. As the acting executive director of NRC, he managed strategic initiatives that included policy development, program management and stakeholder dialogue around development of nationally-focused sustainable materials management policy.
Nicolaidis will serve as the primary manager of initiatives for programs such as this year’s America Recycles Day. Cooley will continue to oversee collegiate programs such as the RecycleMania competition and serve as the liaison to the College and University Recycling Council, among other responsibilities.
