J.V. Manufacturing celebrates six years without a lost-time incident

Solid waste and recycling equipment manufacturer has a safety committee comprising shop personnel and management.

J.V. Manufacturing Inc. of Springdale, Arkansas, has passed another safety milestone in January, reaching six years without a lost-time accident.

The Springdale plant manufactures solid waste and recycling equipment under the trade name of Cram-a-Lot for major retail chains, industrial facilities, grocery stores and restaurants.

J.V. Manufacturing’s Springdale facility employs 150 people in steel fabrication, welding, painting and shipping and receiving roles. In a news release announcing the achievement, the company says, “Six years of safety without a lost-time accident is a significant achievement for any manufacturing facility performing such a variety of activities, and especially in the area of industrial equipment production.”

The company says it has a comprehensive safety program in place, with a safety committee made up of shop personnel and management.

Each Monday, Chris Weiser, company president, ends the weekly planning meeting with a question to the manufacturing team, “What’s your most important job?”

“Safety” is the correct answer.

This entire team has made safety their first priority and adopted safe work practices as an integral part of the culture, J.V. Manufacturing says.

In 2013, the company received an award from the Arkansas Department of labor for achieving 1 million man hours worked without a day lost resulting from a work-related injury. The award is given to Arkansas companies who excel in on-the-job safety.
