Joseph Behr & Sons, headquartered in Rockford, Ill., recently acquired one of the scrap yards formerly owned by Recycling Industries Inc. The facility was known as William Lans Sons Co. It is located in South Beloit, Ill. The facility brings to four the number of scrap yards owned by Behr.
The facility, 18 miles from Behr’s Rockford, Ill., headquarters, could be re-opened within three to four months. Behr will be looking to repair and provide maintenance to the equipment before reopening the facility.
The acquired facility includes a number of pieces of equipment, as well as inventory that was left at the facility. A key piece of equipment will be an auto shredder, which the company will be focusing on developing.
Richard Behr, president of the Joseph Behr, said that the auto shredder is ideal since the Rockford facility does not have a shredder on site. When operational the newly acquired scrap yard will handle primarily ferrous scrap, although some non-ferrous scrap will be run through the facility.
Shredded scrap will be sent directly to end consumers, while non-shredded scrap will be shipped to the Rockford plant.
The scrap yard has been closed for around six months, Behr notes.
